(1) Dallin H. Oaks – April 2005 –
“Pornography”
“Patrons of pornography also lose the
companionship of the Spirit. Pornography produces fantasies that destroy
spirituality. ‘To be carnally minded is death’—spiritual death.”
(2) Boyd K. Packer – October 2010 –
“Cleansing the Inner Vessel”
“In our day the dreadful influence of pornography is like unto a plague sweeping across the world, infecting one
here and one there, relentlessly trying to invade every home, most frequently
through the husband and father. The effect of this plague can be, unfortunately
often is, spiritually fatal. Lucifer seeks to disrupt ‘the great plan of
redemption,’ ‘the great plan
of happiness.”
(3) Thomas S. Monson – April 2006 – “True to the Faith”
“Some publishers and printers prostitute their
presses by printing millions of pieces of pornography each day. No expense is
spared to produce a product certain to be viewed, then viewed again. One of the
most accessible sources of pornography today is the Internet, where one can
turn on a computer and instantly have at his fingertips countless sites
featuring pornography. President Gordon B. Hinckley has said: “I fear this may
be going on in some of your homes. It is vicious. It is lewd and filthy. It is
enticing and habit-forming. It will take [you] down to destruction as surely as
anything in this world. It is foul sleaze that makes its exploiters wealthy,
its victims impoverished.”
(4) Thomas S. Monson – April 2006 – “True to the Faith”
“Avoid any semblance of pornography. It will
desensitize the spirit and erode the conscience. We are told in the Doctrine and Covenants, “That which doth not edify is not of God, and is darkness.” Such is pornography.”
(5) Thomas S. Monson – April 2009 – “Until We Meet Again”
“My beloved friends, under no circumstances
allow yourselves to become trapped in the viewing of pornography, one of the
most effective of Satan’s enticements. And if you have allowed yourself to become
involved in this behavior, cease now. Seek the help you need to overcome and to
change the direction of your life. Take the steps necessary to get back on the
strait and narrow, and then stay there.”
(6) Thomas S. Monson – October 1979 – “Pornography—The Deadly
Carrier”
“Pornography, the carrier, is big business. It
is Mafia-spawned. It is contagious. It is addicting. In a study last year, the
FBI estimated that Americans spent 2.4 billion dollars on hard-core
pornography. Other estimates reach as high as 4 billion—a fortune siphoned away
from noble use and diverted to a devilish purpose!”
(7) Thomas S. Monson – October 1979 – “Pornography—The Deadly
Carrier”
“Apathy toward pornography stems mostly from a
widespread public attitude that it is a victimless crime and that police
resources are better used in other areas. Many state and local ordinances are
ineffective, sentences are light, and the huge financial rewards far outweigh
the risks.”
(8) Linda S. Reeves – April 2014 – “Protection from
Pornography—a Christ-Focused Home”
“Pornography is more vile, evil, and graphic
than ever before. As we counsel with our children, together we can create a
family plan with standards and boundaries, being proactive to protect our homes
with filters on electronic devices. Parents, are we aware that mobile devices
with Internet capacity, not computers, are the biggest culprit?”
(9) Randall L. Ridd – April 2014 – “The Choice Generation”
“Satan wants to control your agency so he can
control what you become. He knows that one of the best ways to do this is by
trapping you with addictive behavior. Your choices determine whether technology
will empower you or enslave you.”
(10) Randall L. Ridd – April 2014 – “The Choice Generation”
“The Internet also records your desires,
expressed in the form of searches and clicks. There are legions waiting to fill
those desires. As you surf the Internet, you leave tracks—what you communicate,
where you have been, how long you have been there, and the kinds of things that
interest you. In this way, the Internet creates a cyber profile for you—in a
sense, your “cyber book of life.” As in life, the Internet will give you more
and more of what you seek. If your desires are pure, the Internet can magnify
them, making it ever easier to engage in worthy pursuits. But the opposite is
also true.”
Position Statement
Addition is extremely dangerous and pornography
has proved to be one of the most dangerous and destructive additions there is
on this earth. It rewires the brain, desensitizes
the spirit, and hardens the heart. It is
a devastating path to go down it is a difficult journey back. Because pornography is so widespread, access
to it is at the tips of most everyone’s fingers. Therefore technology can have a negative connotation. However if educate our desires, re-sensitize
ourselves, and more forward encouraging the word of God, we can overcome our
additions and become the people that we want to become.
