Atonement

(1) Thomas S. Monson – October 2013 – “I Will Not Fail Thee Nor Forsake Thee”

When the pathway of life takes a cruel turn, there is the temptation to ask the question “Why me?” At times there appears to be no light at the end of the tunnel, no sunrise to end the night’s darkness. We feel encompassed by the disappointment of shattered dreams and the despair of vanished hopes. We join in uttering the biblical plea, “Is there no balm in Gilead?” We feel abandoned, heartbroken, alone. We are inclined to view our own personal misfortunes through the distorted prism of pessimism. We become impatient for a solution to our problems, forgetting that frequently the heavenly virtue of patience is required. The difficulties which come to us present us with the real test of our ability to endure. A fundamental question remains to be answered by each of us: Shall I falter, or shall I finish? Some do falter as they find themselves unable to rise above their challenges. To finish involves enduring to the very end of life itself.”

(2) Thomas S. Monson – October 2013 – “I Will Not Fail Thee Nor Forsake Thee”

“Whenever we are inclined to feel burdened down with the blows of life, let us remember that others have passed the same way, have endured, and then have overcome.”

(3) Boyd K. Packer – April 1988 – “Atonement, Agency, Accountability”

An atonement was made. Ever and always it offers amnesty from transgression and from death if we will but repent. Repentance is the escape clause in it all. Repentance is the key with which we can unlock the prison from inside. We hold that key within our hands, and agency is ours to use it.”

(4) Russell M. Nelson – October 1996 –“The Atonement”

“In preparatory times of the Old Testament, the practice of atonement was finite—meaning it had an end. It was a symbolic forecast of the definitive Atonement of Jesus the Christ. His Atonement is infinite—without an end.  It was also infinite in that all humankind would be saved from never-ending death. It was infinite in terms of His immense suffering. It was infinite in time, putting an end to the preceding prototype of animal sacrifice. It was infinite in scope—it was to be done once for all. And the mercy of the Atonement extends not only to an infinite number of people, but also to an infinite number of worlds created by Him. It was infinite beyond any human scale of measurement or mortal comprehension.”

(5) Jeffery R. Holland – April 2012 – “The Laborers of the Vineyard”

“I do not know who in this vast audience today may need to hear the message of forgiveness inherent in this parable, but however late you think you are, however many chances you think you have missed, however many mistakes you feel you have made or talents you think you don’t have, or however far from home and family and God you feel you have traveled, I testify that you have not traveled beyond the reach of divine love. It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ’s Atonement shines.”

(6) Richard G. Scott – October 2013 – “Personal Strength Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ”

“It is a fundamental truth that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ we can be cleansed. We can become virtuous and pure. However, sometimes our poor choices leave us with long-term consequences. One of the vital steps to complete repentance is to bear the short- and long-term consequences of our past sins.”

(7) Richard G. Scott – October 2013 – “Personal Strength Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ”

“The joyful news for anyone who desires to be rid of the consequences of past poor choices is that the Lord sees weaknesses differently than He does rebellion. Whereas the Lord warns that unrepented rebellion will bring punishment, when the Lord speaks of weaknesses, it is always with mercy.”

(8) Shayne M. Bowen – October 2006 – “The Atonement Can Clean, Reclaim, and Sanctify Our Lives”

“The Atonement of Jesus Christ is available to each of us. His Atonement is infinite. It applies to everyone, even you. It can clean, reclaim, and sanctify even you. That is what infinite means—total, complete, all, forever. President Boyd K. Packer has taught: “There is no habit, no addiction, no rebellion, no transgression, no apostasy, no crime exempted from the promise of complete forgiveness. That is the promise of the atonement of Christ.”

(9) Bruce C. Hafen – April 2004 – “The Atonement: All for All”
“Christ’s Atonement is at the very core of this plan. Without His dear, dear sacrifice, there would be no way home, no way to be together, no way to be like Him. He gave us all He had. Therefore, “how great is his joy,” when even one of us “gets it”—when we look up from the weed patch and turn our face to the Son.”
(10) Neal A. Maxwell – October 1997 – “Apply the Atoning Blood of Christ”
“Amid the array of mortal tutorials, we too should strive to “[finish our] preparations” for the third and everlasting estate, which lies ahead—thanks be to Jesus’ glorious Atonement (D&C 19:19). By so doing, we too can become “completed” and “finished,” having finally attained our varied individual potentials.”
Position Statement

The Atonement is a wonderful, beautiful, amazing gift!  It allows me to do exactly what I have decided to name this blog.  It allows me to overcome and become.  It allows me to change into the person that I am destined to become.  It is where all of my hope stems from and it is where all of my motivation is gleaned.  Not only is it wonderful for these reasons, but is also gives me the strength I need to move forward.  It is so easy to believe that no one understands where you are coming from.  You are right! No one on this earth can truly understand exactly what you are coming from.  However, the Atonement gives us someone to go to.  He knows us perfectly.  He knows our ins and outs and every other detail.  The Atonement is not something that is there IF we need it in a part of our lives.  It is there because we need it in EVERY aspect of our lives.
